Bound in illustrated paper covered cloth boards. Boards have wear present to the extremities of the boards. Age toned pages are clean and free of marks. Color pictures are vivid. Binding tight and solid. Delicate evocation of the happy childhood of the new century. Louis-Maurice Boutet de Monvel (1851, Orléans, Loiret 1913) was a French painter and illustrator best known for his watercolors for children's books. He was a major figure in nineteenth century children's literature illustration. Very Good $115.00.

This is a Yiddish translation of Anatole France's children's book "Flowers" (Fleurs). The cover features an illustration in green and purple by Haim Goldberg (1888-1943, aka Haggai) and charming b/w illustrations throughout by acclaimed French children's illustrator Louis-Maurice Boutet de Monvel (1850 - 1913). Title page with b/w illustrated portrait of the author. Text in Yiddish. Cover and a few pages throughout with ink stamp of the publisher "Kultur-Lige" and "Archive". Front cover with some light stains, smudges and abrasions. Spine rubbed and splitting. Back cover with smudges. Title page with ink stamps and markings in ink. Some pages throughout with sporadic light smudges and/or pencil markings. Pages age toned. Wrappers in good-, interior in good+ condition overall. Scarce. Yiddish title: ×'××××¢×, ×¤× ××ס, ×××××× *Monvel was known to have illustrated two works by Anatole France, "Nos Enfants" (1887) and "Filles et Garcons" (circa 1900), but we are unable to locate records of the original French publication of this work.
