Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Good. Book Club Edition. chipped and rubbed dustjacket; prior owner's name inked and whited out on front end page: ***STORY LINE: Domina Drexler--beautiful and brilliant, a woman who embodies all the drives and desires, conflicts and confusions of talented women everywhere--is a true heroine of the 80s. Domina is 37, divorced, and vice-president, creative director of the Potter Jackson Company, a powerful, old-guard advertising agency she has been with for ten years. She is paid well enough to own a luxurious apartment and send her two teenagers to the best schools, but Domina wants something more. She wants what The Potter Jackson Company has awarded men in comparable positions--a senior vice-presidency and membership on the board of directors. Yet her boss, Brady Godwin, a master at every trick of hard-nosed pressure and honeyed persuasion, manages to keep her just one notch below the men at the top.

Soft cover. Etat : Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Signet Books/NAL, New York. 1964. Softcover/Mass Market Paperback. Stated 35th Printing August 1964. Complete and Unabridged. D2086 Priced at 50 cents. Book is tight, square, and unmarked but for F/O name on the first page. Book Condition: Very Good; slight edgewear on spine; slight bumping to tips and head. No DJ. Pictorial card stock wraps. Wraps are not bent or folded; spine is not creased or split; text is secure in binding. Tinted textblock edges. 159 pp 12mo. The book is a tale of violence and sex among rural poor in the American South. It is the story of Georgia sharecropper Jeeter Lester and his family, who are trapped by the bleak economic conditions of the Depression as well as by their own limited intelligence and destructive sexuality. Its tragic ending is almost foreordained by the characters' inability to change their lives. Caldwell's skillful use of dialect and his plain style made the book one of the best examples of literary naturalism in contemporary American fiction. A clean very presentable copy.
